MPD: Data set: Tordoff1

Bachmanov AA, Beauchamp GK, Tordoff MG. Voluntary consumption of NaCl, KCl, CaCl₂ and NH₄Cl solutions by 28 mouse strains. Behav Genet. 2002 Nov;32(6):445-457. PubMed 12467342

Taste preferences between two fluid sources were measured:

NaCl solution vs. water, using concentrations of 75, 150, 300, and 450 mM
KCl solution vs. water, using concentrations of 10, 30, 100, 200, and 300 mM
CaCl₂ solution vs. water, using concentrations of 3, 10, 30, and 100 mM
NH₄Cl solution vs. water, using concentrations of 10, 30, 100 and 300 mM

For each solution and concentration, intake was measured over a 48h period, and preference ratios (solution vs. water) computed. These preference ratios (%) are presented as MPD measurements.

Procedures conducted:

• body weight		Body weight during testing.
• bottle choice test		Various salt solutions (several concentrations) vs. water.
