Mice were maintained pathogen-free under the care and supervision of the technical staff of the Animal Core of the Nathan Shock Center of Excellence in Basic Biology of Aging. All procedures followed the guidelines approved by the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio and South Texas Veterans Health Care System, Audie L. Murphy Division, and are consistent with the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Principles for the Utilization and Care of Vertebrate Animal Used in Testing, Research and Education, the Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals and Animal Welfare Act (National Academy Press, Washington, DC).

Note: Strain names for mice tested prior to importation to The Jackson Laboratory have been updated using current strain nomenclature and assigned JAX vendor codes (if available) in order to facilitate comparisons across projects.
