Acclimation and testing periods

Vendor Mice were obtained from The Jackson Laboratory (JAX®, Bar Harbor, ME)
Ages
6, 12, 20 months
Feed
All mice were fed Lab diet® 5K52 (6% fat, PMI Nutritional International, Bentwood, MO) ad libitum
Water
Drinking water was acidified to pH 2.8 to 3.2 to prevent bacterial growth
Housing
Same-sex mice were housed four per pen in duplex polycarbonate cages (31x31x214cm) equipped with pressurized individually ventilated mouse racks (Thoren Caging Systems Inc.) with HEPA filtered supply and exhaust
Bedding
Steam autoclaved white pine shavings
Photoperiod
12 hours (light) on, 12 hours off; or 12 h light : 12 h dark cycle
Relative humidity ~50%
Temperature
21-23 °C
Health status
The Jackson Laboratory Diagnostics Laboratory routinely monitors and documents animal health status using statistically valid sampling procedures and standard protocols.
