Jackson Laboratory
With: Yang Y, Kitten A, Griffey S, Chang F, Dixon K, Browne C, Clary D

Specific details per animal are available in this data file and include vendor housing and diet information, dates of birth and shipping date, animal ages at the various tests, and vendor health report of sentinel animals.

Vendor: Mice obtained from The Jackson Laboratory.

Health status report: The Jackson Laboratory Diagnostics Laboratory routinely monitors and documents animal health status using statistically valid sampling procedures and standard protocols. Detailed health status reports for each animal room represented from this project are on file and available on request .

See JAX®Mice Quality Control Programs or the JAX®Mice Catalog for the list of agents monitored.

C57BL/6J, DBA/2J, AND BALB/cJ mice were obtained from JAX West (maximum barrier); all other strains obtained from the Bar Harbor facility (standard barrier).

Environment before shipping:

Feed:LabDiet 5K52.

Water: Adjusted with hydrochloric acid to pH 2.8-3.1 and supplemented with menadione sodium bisulfite (final concentration 0.4 mg/mL) to compensate for potential decrease in vitamin K activity upon autoclaving; water supplied in pinhole type bottles (Thoren Caging Systems, Inc. Hazelton, PA).

Housing: Thoren cages; Thoren Maxi Miser #3 cages used for some strains as part of a PIV (pressurized individually ventilated) system.

Bedding: Steam autoclaved white pine shavings.

Photoperiod: 14 hours on (generally covering the hours of 0430 h to 1830 h) 10 hours off.

Temperature: 18 - 24°C

Relative humidity: ~50%.

Acclimation period

Duration: 7 days for all strains except SJL/J males which were shipped at 4 wks of age and housed for an additional 5 wks (all mice were the same age at testing).

Acclimation & Testing periods

Water: Adjusted with hydrochloric acid to pH 2.8-3.2; supplied in pinhole type bottles.

Housing: Individually ventilated cages (Micro-Vent Environmental System, Allentown Caging Equipment Co., Allentown, NJ, USA). Four mice were housed per cage (75 cm2); cages were ventilated with 60 air changes per hour with HEPA-filtered air.

Feed: LabDiet Prolab - 5P75 Isopro - 3000 (irradiated feed).

Bedding: Irradiated Tek Fresh wood pulp (Harlan Teklad); changed every other week.

Photoperiod: 12 h light/dark (0700 h to 1900 h).

Temperature: 24 - 25 °C

Relative humidity: 30-70%

Health status report: Mice appeared healthy during acclimation period.

Dates of Testing: 7-Oct-2002 to 2-Dec-2002
