This study used a screen of genetically diverse mice (F1 hybrids of Collaborative Cross strains of mice (CC RIX)) infected with mouse-adapted SARS-CoV in combination with comprehensive pre-infection immunophenotyping to identify baseline circulating immune correlates of severe virologic and clinical outcomes upon SARS-CoV infection. Eight to ten week old female CC RIX mice were infected intranasally and monitored for death, weight loss, and lung viral loads (data from this part of the study are in this project, Graham2). Age-matched, uninfected male CC RIX mice were used to assess baseline steady-state splenic T cell numbers (data from this part of the study are in Graham3).

Experimental groups in this study:
• SARS-CoV

Procedures conducted:
• colony observation  Body weight loss and mortality.
• in vitro assay  Lung viral load (log10).
