Acclimation and testing periods

The Jackson Laboratory

Supplier	All mice were raised and maintained at The Jackson Laboratory (JAX®, Bar Harbor, ME) until 6-11 wks of age
Ages	Phenotypic analysis conducted at 9-12 wks of age
Feed	LabDiet® 5K52 (PMI Nutritional International, Bentwood, MO)
Water	Ad libitum
Housing	Mice were housed in groups of 5 in pressurized and individually ventilated cages topped with a polyester filter (Thoren Caging System, Hazleton, PA)
Bedding	Pine shavings
Photoperiod	12 h light/12 h dark cycle
Temperature	22 ± 1.0°C
Health status	The animal room at The Jackson Laboratory is SPF (specific pathogen free), regularly monitored for and free of viruses, bacterial species, Mycoplasma, and parasites, as described at JAX®mice. All animal protocols were reviewed and approved by the Animal Care and Use Committee at The Jackson Laboratory.

 

University of Pittsburgh

Supplier	All mice were raised and maintained in colonies at The Jackson Laboratory (JAX®, Bar Harbor, ME) untill 6-11 wks of age
Ages	Mice were acclimated in the vivarium for 3 wks; phenotypic analysis conducted at 9-12 wks of age
Feed	Prolab® 5P76 Isopro® 3000 (PMI Nutritional International, Bentwood, MO) given ad libitum
Water	Ad libitum
Housing	5 mice per cage, separated by sex and strain in clear polycarbonate/ polysulfone cages (28 x 18 x 13 cm) topped with a polyester filter; cages by Allentown Inc. (Allentown, NY)
Bedding	Pine shavings
Photoperiod	12 h light/12 h dark cycle
Temperature	22 +/- 1.0°C
Health status	The vivarium at the University of Pittsburgh is inspected four times a year and found to be free of viruses and parasites, except for murine norovirus. All animal protocols were reviewed and approved by the Animal Care and Use Committee at the University of Pittsburgh.
