Voluntary physical activity and energy expenditure on both sexes of 30 inbred mouse strains were ascertained in an automated phenotyping home cage system during a 48h test (data from the second day was used). The influence of strain, sex and dark and light periods were investigated on 7-15 week old mice. Indirect calorimetry and activity parameters, VO2 and VCO2 are used to extract respiratory exchange ratio (RER) in both male and female mice during one photophase and the subsequent scotophase.

Experimental groups in this study:
• Baseline

Procedures conducted:
• body weight
• intake monitoring  Food and water intake; 2-day test, second day data analyzed during 12:12h light and dark periods.
• monitoring system  Voluntary activity and energy expenditure. 2-day test, second day data analyzed during 12:12h light and dark periods.
