Voluntary physical activity and energy expenditure on both sexes of 30 inbred mouse strains were ascertained in an automated phenotyping home cage system during a 48h test (data from the second day was used). The influence of strain, sex and dark and light periods were investigated on 7-15 week old mice. Indirect calorimetry and activity parameters, VO₂ and VCO₂ are used to extract respiratory exchange ratio (RER) in both male and female mice during one photophase and the subsequent scotophase.
