Wittenburg1: Cholesterol gallstones, gallbladder mucin accumulation, and related gallstone phenotypes in reciprocal backcrosses between AKR/J and SWR/J (2002)

Wittenburg H, Lammert F, Wang DQ, Churchill GA, Li R, Bouchard G, Carey MC, Paigen B. Interacting QTLs for cholesterol gallstones and gallbladder mucin in AKR and SWR strains of mice. Physiol Genomics. 2002 Feb 11;8(1):67-77.   PubMed 11842132

A reciprocal backcross of AKR/J and SWR/J was generated to identify QTLs for cholesterol gallstones, gallbladder mucin accumulation, liver and body weight. At 8 wks of age, backcross progeny of both sexes were administered a high-fat (15%) diet for 12 wks and examined for gallstone formation and related phenotypes. Mice were fasted prior to sample collection. For detailed protocols see Wittenburg et al 2002.
