An advanced intercross between C57BL/6J and NZB/BlNJ inbred mouse strains was generated to identify quantitative trait loci (QTL) involved in plasma HDL cholesterol concentrations and susceptibility to atherosclerosis. Blood lipids were measured in F11 mice administered a high-fat (15%) diet from 4-10 wks of age. Plasma was obtained from fasted mice (4 hr). For detailed protocols see Wang et al., 2003.
