To determine the genetic contribution to variation among cholesterol levels, an F2 intercross between RIIIS/J and 129S1/SvImJ strains was generated. 330 male mice from F2 population were fed an atherogenic (high-fat) diet for 8-12 wks. The total plasma, HDL and non-HDL were determined at the end of feeding period and some significant QTLs were identified in these phenotypes. For detailed protocols see Lyons et al 2004.
