Purpose: To characterize Apoe-null B6.129P2-Apoetm1Unc/J and Ldlr-null B6.129S7-Ldlrtm1Her/J mice after weaning to 14 wks of age. C57BL/6J mice were also tested as controls. Mice were screened for obesity, non-fasting glucose levels, serum lipids, and hematology. Apo A1 and Apo B were measured as well. Per-animal data are available in the download file.

Methods

Diet administration: Apoe-null mice were weaned at 4 wks of age; the other two strains were weaned at 3 wks of age. All mice were fed LabDiet 5K52 formulation (6% fat by weight) from weaning to 14 wks of age.

Body weight: Weekly body weights were measured from cohorts of male and female mice of all three genotypes.

Clinical chemistry: At the ages of 6, 8, 10, 12, and 14 wks, submandibular blood was collected and processed to serum (mice were not fasted). Cholesterol, LDL, HDL, glucose, trigyclerides, non-esterified fatty acids, Apo A1 and Apo B were measured from each sample using a Beckman Coulter AU680 chemistry analyzer.

Hematology: At the age of 8 wks, submandibular blood was collected from a separate group of mice (all three strains) for hematology analysis using a Drew Scientific Hemavet 950FS.
