Acclimation and testing periods

Ages/Supplier
The animals were produced at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) and then were transferred to the University of Tennessee Animal Facility in a temperature-controlled van before testing at 6 wks of age.
Feed
Mice were maintained on a diet of 5% fat (Agway Prolab 3000 rat and mouse chow) and given ad libitum

Housing
Mice were housed in a specific pathogen-free environment
Photoperiod
12:12 hr L:D; light/dark cycle
Humidity 45-50 %
Temperature
23.5 °C
Health status
All experimental procedures were conducted according to the Principles of Laboratory Animal Care protocols (NIH publication No. 86-23, revised 1985) and were approved by the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center.
