Acclimation and testing periods

Ages/Supplier

The animals were produced at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) and then were transferred to the University of Tennessee Animal Facility in a temperature-controlled van before testing at 6 wks of age.

Feed

Mice were maintained on a diet of 5% fat (Agway Prolab 3000 rat and mouse chow) and given ad libitum

Mice were housed in a specific pathogen-free environment

12:12 hr L:D; light/dark cycle

All experimental procedures were conducted according to the Principles of Laboratory Animal Care protocols (NIH publication No. 86-23, revised 1985) and were approved by the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center.

Note: Strain names for mice tested prior to importation to The Jackson Laboratory have been updated using current strain nomenclature and assigned JAX vendor codes (if available) in order to facilitate comparisons across projects.
