Rating scale for wildness and ease of handling.

Rating scales for difficulty in capturing and holding mice were devised to provide an impression of the difficulties encountered while working with common laboratory strains and four wild-derived inbred strains.

Notes
Wahlsten D, Metten P, Crabbe JC. A rating scale for wildness and ease of handling laboratory mice: results for 21 inbred strains tested in two laboratories. Genes Brain Behav. 2003 Apr;2(2):71-9.     PubMed    MGI

There have been no updates or corrections to the dataset since it was first released in Mar, 2004

This study was conducted on the same set of mice tested for several behavioral parameters and examined for brain defects (Wahlsten1).

    Missing data code clarifications:
DI = died; always occurred in home cage in colony room, never during the actual test
ND = no data; almost always occurred because technician failed to record rating
PP = physical problem; for strain C58/J, trial was stopped when they sank in water maze
OT = other; average undefined because of missing values

Some strain means have N < 5 animals (click for table).
