Exploratory behavior of 8 inbred strains of mice surveyed in three laboratories

An investigation into exploratory and locomotor behavior utilizing video tracking apparatus and specialized analysis software. Degree of replication across 3 different laboratories was a secondary outcome.

Comparability across labs

Tests were conducted in three laboratories. The following table shows measurement correlations between labs. All mice were males, with data for 8 strains supplied by each lab. TAU = Tel Aviv University (Golani, Benjamini); NIDA = National Institute on Drug Abuse (Kafkafi); MPRC = Maryland Psychiatric Research Center (Elmer).

A significant lab x strain interaction was noted for C3H/HeJ mice, particularly for number of near-wall incursions (NNW) which seems to be more sensitive to environmental variation than the other incursion types.
