What Does This Nomenclature Mean?
Strain #:000461
RRID:IMSR_JAX:000461Info
Common Name: B10.D2 | Also Known As: B10.D2-Hc0
This strain carries the Hc0 allele from DBA/2J, making them serum C5 deficient. Mice have increased susceptibility to certain pathogens and impaired chemotactic responses of neutrophils. Allograft rejection is prolonged. This congenic strain has been used for numerous immunological studies.

Detailed Description
This strain carries the Hc0 allele from DBA/2J, making them serum C5 deficient. Mice have increased susceptibility to certain pathogens and impaired chemotactic responses of neutrophils. Allograft rejection is prolonged. The following inbred strains are also homozygous for the Hc0 allele: A/HeJ (Stock No. 000645), AKR/J (Stock No. 000648), DBA/2J (Stock No. 000671), NOD/LtJ (Stock No. 001976), NZB/BlNJ (Stock No. 000684), and SWR/J (Stock No. 000689).

Development
This line was developed by Dr. George Snell during the late 1940's and early 1950's from an initial cross between C57BL/10Sn and DBA/2 and progeny were backcrossed for 6 generations to C57BL/10Sn and then maintained by sibling mating. By using tumor rejection for selection each generation, the H2 locus along with the Hc and H2-T18 loci from DBA/2 were selected in this congenic strain.  This strain is distinguished from 000460 B10.D2-Hc0 H2d H2-T18c/o2SnJ by the number of backcross generations.
