What Does This Nomenclature Mean?
Strain #:100003
RRID:IMSR_JAX:100003Info
These F1 (first filial generation) hybrid mice are the offspring of a cross between BALB/cJ females (C) and A/J males (A). Uses include hybrid vigor, as a background for deleterious mutations, to create or enhance expression of polygenic diseases, to determine the mode of inheritance, and to provide physiological buffering (present a broader array of responses to various stresses).

Detailed Description
These F1 (first filial generation) hybrid mice are the offspring of a cross between BALB/cJ females (C) and A/J males (A). F1 hybrid mice are heterozygous at all loci (assuming the parental strains have different alleles), and like inbred mice they are genetically and phenotypically uniform. F1 hybrids are often used for hybrid vigor, as a background for some deleterious mutations, for tissue transplantation, to determine the mode of inheritance, to create or enhance expression of polygenic diseases, and to provide physiological buffering (present a broader array of responses to various stresses).

Development
These F1 (first filial generation) hybrid mice are the offspring of a cross between BALB/cJ females (C) and A/J males (A).
