Info When using the SOD1/EiJ mouse strain in a publication, please include JAX stock #001224 in your Materials and Methods section.

Detailed Description
SOD1/EiJ carries a spontaneous mutation in the Sod1 gene (Luche et al., 1997). The mutation differs from the C57BL/6J sequence at position 231 and changes a glutamate to a lysine in a positively charged amino acid domain within the Zn-subloop. This strain is fertile and exhibits no obvious phenotype.

Development
Although there is little information on the history of this strain, our records suggest that this stock carries a slow migrating protein variant of SOD1 derived from a wild-caught Mus domesticus female (caught in Greece) and was crossed at least one generation to C57BL/6J. The Jackson Laboratory maintains this colony as an inbred strain (sibling mating).
