Acclimation & testing periods

Vendor Mice 6-8 wks of age were obtained from The Jackson Laboratory (JAX®, Bar Harbor, ME) or Charles River (CD-1)

11-13 wks old at the time of testing

Feed

NIH-07 diet (Zeigler Brothers, Gardners, PA) given ad libitum, except during an 18 h period of fasting prior to necropsy

Provided ad libitum

Housed in polycarbonate cages; vehicle-treated mice housed 5/cage; DB289 treated mice housed 4/cage within the same strain

Sani-Chips, irradiated hardwood bedding (P.J. Murphy Forest Products Corp., Montville, NJ)

Photoperiod

Automatic light controls set to provide fluorescent lighting for an approximate 12 h photo period (approximately 0700-1900h for light phase)

Care of mice followed institutional guidelines under a protocol approved by The Hamner Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee
