Willott1: Startle and prepulse inhibition survey of 40 inbred strains of mice (2002)

Willott JF, Tanner L, O'Steen J, Johnson KR, Bogue MA, Gagnon L. Acoustic startle and prepulse inhibition in 40 inbred strains of mice. Behav Neurosci. 2003 Aug;117(4):716-27.   PubMed 12931957

Notes
Individual mice were tested in two rounds (A and B); averages are used (except for the habituation index, which was determined from round 1). Data for individual rounds A and B are available in the supplemental download file.

An investigation of susceptibility to psychiatric gating disorders. Animals were evaluated using Med Associates, Inc prepulse inhibition and startle reflex measurement system. Mice were tested for acoustic startle response and prepulse inhibition at 5-7 weeks of age. These same mice were subjected to a morphological examination of the eye at 6-7 weeks of age by the Hawes1 project and later characterized for bone mineral density, body composition, and craniofacial characterization at 15-16 weeks of age by the Donahue1 project.

Procedures conducted:
• body weight
• acoustic startle test  Acoustic startle response, prepulse inhibition.
