Taxonomic coverage
Mus musculus. Laboratory mouse, various strains.

Scope: data types captured, curation policy, standards used
Data types captured: 1) phenotype strain survey data; 2) genotype variation data; 3) gene expression strain survey data. All data must serve to characterize mouse strains and differences between strains.

Curation policy: Data submitted by community investigators in Excel spreadsheets or downloaded by us from open public sources. We curate data into a common framework by standardizing mouse strain nomenclature, standardizing units (SI where feasible), evaluating (completeness, statistical power, quality), categorizing phenotype data and linking to ontologies, conformance to internal style guide for titles, tags, and descriptions, and creation of comprehensive protocol documentation. Peer review publication is encouraged but not required.

Criteria for evaluating phenotype strain survey data sets: http://phenome.jax.org/db/q?rtn=docs/recommendations

Standards: MIs, Data formats, terminologies
Downloads are generally provided in CSV or TXT format. An XML file of metadata associated with all data sets is available. Phenotypes, descriptions, units, tags, and titles are standardized as described above.

    Downloads are located here: http://phenome.jax.org/download

Data accessibility/output options
    Interactive: HTML.
    Download: CSV, XML, TXT.

Data release frequency
    Approximately 20 per year.

Versioning period and access to historical files
Version numbering is not used. News and new releases are summarized on a chronological What's New page, and data changes are recorded in a chronological Change Log. Historical database or application images are not publicly available.
